چکیده

Remote 3D virtual reality systems for visualizing fossils and ores are a kind of efficient tools to facilitate communication and research in geology and palaeontology community. During the visualization procedure, we must keep not only the geometrical data but also the surface textures and color information. They are very important for the specialists to analyse the forming time and environments of the fossils and ores. In this paper, we describe a modelling procedure for generating 3D models of the fossils and ores based on 3D scanning data and color images. We analyse key problems that we encountered during the modelling procedure, and propose some new methods to solve them. The methods include scanning path planning, panoramic texture generation and texture mapping. Finally, some models for rare fossils and ores are presented.

Oblique Helicopter-based Laser Scanning for Digital Terrain Modelling and Visualisation of Geological Outcrops

Terrestrial laser scanning is becoming increasingly popular for modelling geological outcrops, because of the high resolution, accuracy and ease of dataset integration. Despite these significant advantages, limitations with the technique remain when the spatial extent of the study area is large, as most current systems have a maximum range of less than one kilometre. This becomes a major proble...

The Benefits of Terrestrial Laser Scanning and Hyperspectral Data Fusion Products

Close range hyperspectral imaging is a developing method for the analysis and identification of material composition in many applications, such as in within the earth sciences. Using compact imaging devices in the field allows near-vertical topography to be imaged, thus bypassing the key limitations of viewing angle and resolution that preclude the use of airborne and spaceborne platforms. Terr...

Fundamentals of 3D modelling and resource estimation in coal mining

The prerequisite of maintaining an efficient and safe mining operation is the proper design of a mine by considering all aspects. The first step in a coal mine design is a realistic geometrical modelling of the coal seam(s). The structural features such as faults and folding must be reliably implemented in 3D seam models. Upon having a consistent seam model, the attributes such as calorific val...

3D Modelling of Under Ground Burried Objects Based on Ground Penetration Radar

There is a growing demand for mapping and 3D modelling of buried objects such as pipelines, agricultural hetitage, landmines and other buried objects. Usually, large scale and high resolution maps from these objects are needed. Manually map generation and modeling of these objects are cost and time consuming and is dependent on lots of resources. Therefore, automating the subsurface mapping and...

Optimizing design of 3D seismic acquisition by CRS trace interpolation

Land seismic data acquisition in most of cases suffers from obstacles in fields which deviates geometry of the real acquired data from what was designed. These obstacles will cause gaps, narrow azimuth and offset limitation in the data. These shortcomings, not only prevents regular trace distribution in bins, but also distorts the subsurface image by reducing illumination of the target formatio...
